  1. zacharymcmanus says:

Imperialism is a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through a diplomacy or military force. It was said that it was America’s ‘Duty’ to civilize the world. Imperialism was looked down upon because George Washington told us to stay out of foreign affairs and it proved problematic because The Spanish American War starts, But many people thought it would also be a good thing. There was a strong influence on a strong Naval military so we took over Hawaii for a Naval Base. Most people thought that since Asia and Africa were creating Empires so we needed to expand so that we wouldn’t get left behind or overtaken.

  2. Mr. Universe [Drrnwtkns] says:

Imperialism is a policy extending your rule over foreign countries. The people who were for it, basically favored one dominating empire. With imperialism the dominating country conquered other countries for their natural resources. Although conditions were to be improved in the conquered nation, the country loses its independence. Those who were against it saw that imperialism was wrong. Anti-imperialist wish not to harm the culture diversity of the world.

  3. Imperialism is expanding a country’s power, ideas, and property through military or political force. Anti-imprialist argued that it was wrong to take other peoples land from them and that we needed to improve our land before we took anymore. People who were for imperialism believed that it was Americas god give right to expand and that it was the will of god that we expanded our country. Americans justified their actions by saying that we were helping the people become more like englishmen when we took their land.

  4. treadaway3tiffany says:

Imperialism is defined as the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies.
Some arguments for Imperialism were nationalism, the fact that other countries were enforcing it, and the United State’s need for new markets.
Some arguments against Imperialism were the fact that we revolted when Britain tried to rule over us, there were feelings that we should not get involved with foreign affairs, and there were even some dramatical results in the form of writings and pictures tat showed just how awful the entire process really was.

  5. lonerchrisallen says:

Imperialism generally defined is America coming into other countries, and interfering with the way things were done. This could be considered a form of Manifest Destiny as well. This sometimes had good effects, such as Cuba when helped them by interfering. So, even though it sometimes has bad side-effects, as long as it can help others then I am pro-Imperialism.

  6. kelseygathings says:

Imperialism is where a policy that is taking colonies for economic interest. Also meaning that a country takes over another country. For imperialism is where america just basically wanted money. Since the U.S has the world power with trade profit. Now for against imperialism some arguments are how religions are being forced upon citizens that is unfair. Also some arguments said about is that we do not need to take or control someone’s land trade with them.

  7. thomasbentley21 says:

Imperialism is a difficult term to explain. Mainly because it is seen as an extension for manifest destiny and so is a good thing. Also though, it is seen as a stronger country dominating over a weaker country. Many can say it is a good thing, we are helping third world countries become better and reach more of their potential by us invading them and teaching them our ways. While others are against it and will say the imperialism is wrong because we are forcing other countries to our will and taking advantage of them. Just like in Iraq, many say the war is a good thing because we are helping free them and live for themselves. While others say it is wrong because numerous Iraqis do not know why we are in their homeland and they don’t know anything about 9/11.

  8. keanapolk says:

Imperialism is the policy of taking colonies for economic interests. Imperialism is a debate over the moral and ethical idea of imperialism.Neither Philippines,Latin America,or Mexico surrendered to the U.S. The Philippines had revolted, Latin America had resisted to Roosevelt Corrollary, and Mexico had attacked Americans in Texs during the year of 1916.

  9. amymccormick says:

Imperialism is the act of a country extending it’s power to other nations across the world. Stronger nations take control over weaker ones and take command of their economy and government. Many people are against imperialism because because it creates unfair empires that affect the country in negative ways. The people that are for imperialism want to be in control and will do anything to extend their power and don’t care about how the other country feels about being dominated.

  10. katjasinnett says:

As defined by The Dictionary of Human Geography, is “the creation and maintenance of an unequal economic, cultural and territorial relationship, usually between states and often in the form of an empire, based on domination and subordination.” People were against it because it was morally unethical, and it would create problems with another nation. People were for it because it would be good for the economy, and a spread of technology.

  11. sylviavang says:

Imperialism is a process where a country’s foreign power extends. It helps other countries to build their economy, government, and religion ideas. On this hand, America takes the advantage of helping weak countries. They go over board with the controlling and soon war strikes. After a few years of confusion, America opposes the imperialism method.

  12. stephenlittle1 says:

Imperialism is defined as the policy of taking colonies for economic interests. Or forcing values on people from other nations. To me, this is wrong. Our first and probably most, greatest president George Washington told us to stay out of other countries affairs so they may not be involved in any conflict. Now, when Cuba was controlled by the Spanish and were treated unfairly and harshly then maybe we can “help” by sending food, water, or etc. But by getting involved in the war we are ignoring the Monroe Doctrine and cause tension within America and Cuba.

  13. zacharyallen says:

Imperialism is a policy extending your rule over foreign countries. America thought it was there responsibility to make the countries like their own country. This helped imperialism would bring more unity to the world was the belief of people for imperialism. People against Imperialism thought it was morally wrong and that other countries that are controlled by imperialism loose their traditions.

  15. lexilandis says:

Imperialism is known as a policy that is closely related to manifest destiny. Imperialism says that we should expand our powers to foreign countries to help our own economic issues even at the cost of neighboring territories. A person who considered themself an anti-imperialist was against harming other countries; they thought it to be selfish. A person who was pro-imperialism just believed they were fulfilling the dreams that we, as Americans, deserved.

  16. genniferkjones says:

Imperialism is defined as the policy of extending rule over foreign countries for economic interest. One argument for Imperialism was the fact that the U.S was never completely isolated from the rest of the world. Others were against Manifest Destiny because they had little power and no say so in any decisions.

  17. thomasbentley21 says:

Imperialism is were a country extends their own power in a political way or military wise. Imperialism gets its influence done by the governments military force. Imperialism is also very similar to manifest destiny. Some people didn’t like it because they thought it was taking over other peoples country. We can hurt other countries that don’t wont our democracy. When a ship was exploded called the Maine it made americans want to be for imperialism and take over Spain for taking out our ship.

Imperialism is an American policy that was adopted to take colonies for economic interest. Some arguments against imperialism are to annex colonies would violate the “consent of the government” philosophy in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Imperealism is the policy of taking colonies for economic interests. Some reasons for imperialism is strong national pride, a desire for strong foreign policy, we needed a new market for out product, and other world powers were growing. Reasons against imperialism were that we do not have to control someone’s land in order to trade with them. Also it would take away the rights of those that were part of the colonized area.

  21. travismartinrules says:

Imperialism is the policy of extending your rule over foreign countries.

For: Possible trade profit and civilizing other countries

Imperialism is the policy of extending a nation’s authority by territorial possession or by the establishment of economic and political control over other nations. An argument that is for imperialism is that America is helping poorer countries become “civilized”. They are also introducing Christianity to the “savages”. America is also extending their trade, therefore helping the other country economically grow. Arguments against imperialism are that its morally wrong, it’ll be unprofitable, and that it is against out Constitution.

  32. rynedellinger12 says:

Imperialism is when a nation extends its boundary to other territories through use of force. American wants to expand its nation because americans believe in manifest destiny. God loves america and wants them to be dominate power in the world. The hippies, however, believe that by taking over other nations we are destroying them. The economy will collapse and we kill people.

Imperialism is a policy of extending control or authority over foreign entities as a means of acquisition and/or maintenance of empires, either through direct territorial conquest or through indirect methods of exerting control on the politics and/or economy of other countries. Some of the arguments were that we should take over every country and force them to become a christianity religion some agreed with this because of they increasing need of a more powerful Navy to protect the overseas trade. We turned Cuba into a protectorate, imperialism was done basically for Manifest Destiny. Which allowed America to become a imperial power which is why some people supported Imperialism.

  45. sebastianvelezcantdance says:

Imperialism can be taken in two ways one it could be seen as good. When America invaded Cuba to get the spanish out and used for Manifest Destiny to make America an imperial power it was seen as good. Although in some cases it was seen as bad mainly because people did not like how America was becoming an imperial power. They saw it as America was being forceful and threatening.

Imperialism is a policy of extending your rule over foreign countries. Many people during this time period were for the idea of imperialism. They believed the the United States was superior to other countries. One advocate for imperialism said “Every empire, however, tells itself and the world that it is unlike all other empires, that its mission is not to plunder and control but to educate and liberate.” This mean that imperialism was all about trying to teach foreign countries to act like Americans.
